I have been a photographer for over twenty years. It’s more than just my career; it’s a passion, a creative outlet, and a way to connect with the world. Over the years, I have discovered that I not only love to capture the moment but also love to help others do the same.
I first picked up a camera when I was about 11 years old. My aunt had a Minolta film camera on which she would take all our family photos when I was younger. I was so in awe I would walk around the house with it empty and just act like I was snapping photos of everything. Once I hit high school I always had a disposable camera everywhere I went. I enrolled in the photography program at college, brought my aunt’s camera, and learned to use it. I started in B/W film then moved to color photography after about 1 1/2 years. And that was the end of my formal training. After 10 years I dove into the digital world of photography, learning online and through workshops like the ones I teach.
Empowering others through knowledge is one way I feel like I can help others who want to learn the craft. I have a very hands-on approach to the way I teach. I teach with patience and empathy because learning the camera can be very intimidating and confusing. Seeing the moment someone gets it and gaining the confidence to create something beautiful is rewarding to me.
I hope that through teaching we can build a community of like-minded individuals where we can learn from each other, share our experience, and celebrate our growth. I love to foster connections through a shared passion. Giving back to the community through teaching is the best way to do that.
Teaching for me isn’t just about the technical skills it’s about sparking creativity and building the confidence to see the world differently. It’s my way to give back to the art that has given me so much joy and purpose.
If you ever want to learn photography or how to use your camera reach out I would love to share what I know!
